Liposuction

Liposuction, also known as lipoplasty, is a highly individualized surgical body contouring procedure and not a weight loss procedure. Ideal candidates should be within 30% of their desired weight when undergoing this procedure. Liposuction is a surgical procedure that slims and reshapes specific body areas by removing excess fat deposits that do not respond to diet or exercise. In essence, no matter what these people do, they just can’t get rid of these fat deposits. In women, it is usually the lower abdomen and outer thigh areas – sometimes referred to as saddlebags. For men, the problem area is often their “love handles.” The neck is a problem area for many people and often responds very well to liposculpture. Other areas that can be addressed include the upper abdomen, flanks, inner thigh, upper arms, knees, the upper back and the mid-back. This procedure will improve body contour and proportion, ultimately enhancing ones self-image.

Liposuction removes excess fat using a surgical vacuum or powered suction device. When large amounts of fat are suctioned from an area, compression garments are worn to assist during the healing process. This helps skin conform to the reduced body contours. The improved body contour will be apparent after the swelling that follows the surgery subsides. This surgery is performed in an accredited surgical facility. In general, patients can usually return to work in 5 – 7 days. Healing will continue for several weeks as swelling continues to dissipate.
